H.E. Frech III (Ted Frech) is Professor of Economics and former chair at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has been a visiting professor at Harvard University, at Curtin University in Perth, Australia and at the University of Chicago. He has been an Adjunct Professor at Sciences Po in Paris and at the Naval Postgraduate School. He is a member of the Advisory Board, and an affiliated faculty member, of the Petris Center on Health Care Markets and Consumer Welfare at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his B.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Missouri and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles. Prof. Frech’s research and teaching interests are in the broad area of applied microeconomics, both theoretical and statistical. He has taught a large variety of courses in the U.S. and abroad, including microeconomic theory, industrial organization, statistics, econometrics, law and economics and health economics. (Industrial organization economics is one of the bases of managerial strategy.) His research has been widely published. He has lectured in many countries and has testified before state and federal courts, regulatory agencies, the U.S. Congress and state legislatures. He has done a wide variety of consulting in innovative industries, such as aviation, health care, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and electronics.
