University of Virginia, Ph.D. University of Chicago, J.D. Hope College, B.A. Elizabeth S. Anker works on contemporary world literature, law and literature and the relationship between aesthetics and politics. She holds a J.D. from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. Her first book, Fictions of Dignity: Embodying Human Rights in World Literature (2012), examines how liberal human rights discourses and norms depend on the construct of bodily integrity. She has recently published essays in New Literary History, American Literary History, the University of Toronto Quarterly, and Novel: A Forum on Fiction, in addition to a number of edited volumes. She has been a fellow at the Cornell Society for the Humanities and the Stanford Humanities Center. Her current book project, Our Constitutional Metaphors: Law, Culture, and the Management of Crisis, looks to literature, film, television, and architecture to conduct a comparative study of the aesthetic forms through which we imagine constitutions. She is also working on two co-edited collections: New Directions in Law and Literature with Bernadette Meyler, and Rethinking Critique with Rita Felski.
