His most recent publications include Love and Politics in the Contemporary Spanish American Novel (Austin: U of Texas Press, 2010) and a critical edition of Redentores by Manuel Zeno Gandía (Río Piedras: University of Puerto Rico Press, 2010). He is the recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellowship, and is currently at work on a study of the role of religion in the modern Spanish American novel. He is the founder and general editor of the Bucknell Studies in Latin American Literature and Theory Series of Bucknell University Press, and was general editor of the Cambridge Studies in Latin American and Iberian Literature Series of Cambridge University Press from 1995 to 1997. He currently serves on the editorial and advisory boards of Decimonónica, Latin American Literary Review, Revista de Estudios Hispánicos (Washington U. in St. Louis), Revista Canadiense de Estudios Hispánicos, Revista Iberoamericana, and Symposium.
