I am interested in the socio-political consequences of memory narratives and the delicate relationship between processes of collective remembering, reconciliatory initiatives, and the demands of justice in post-conflict or post-authoritarian societies. To what extent are people of the current generation bound by a violent past and the memory of this past? What forms of subjectivity emerge through different memories of atrocity, and what forms of collective action do these memories facilitate or hinder? I also co-organize the Holocaust, Genocide and Mass Violence Studies Interdisciplinary Graduate Group.
