Paul Goren is a Professor of Political Science and the Director of Graduate Studies. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on American politics, public opinion, political psychology, political behavior, applied statistics and econometrics. He is the author of the book On Voter Competence and multiple research articles in leading professional journals in the field. His current research centers on (1) the relationship between basic human values, public opinion, and symbolic ideology; (2) how core beliefs about the size and scope of government shape party identification over time; (3) how opinion on moral issues shape partisan and religious predispositions over time; and (4) how welfare opinions reinforce racial prejudice. His research on welfare and race is funded by the Russell Sage Foundation.
