LaLonnie Lehman has served as professor and costume designer at TCU since 1972. In addition to her TCU degrees, she studied at Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Mexico, Michigan State University and Jackson (Michigan) Junior College. She teaches Costume History, Costume Design, Period Styles, Costume Crafts and Pattern Drafting. She taught the 5 week summer class Modern Trends in Theatre in London for 11 years. She presented lectures at Tatischev University and the Pedagogical Academy of Samara, Russia. Papers have been presented at the National United States Institute for Theatre Technology Annual Symposia and published articles in the Cutters’ Research Journal, a quarterly devoted to clothing, accessories, and textiles. Recent costume designs include Oklahoma!, Scapino, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, and Private Lives at TCU, Outlying Islands and Oedipus the King at Upstream Theatre (Director Philip Boehm) St. Louis, Town Musicians of Bremen at Fort Worth Children’s Opera and Ellis Island: The Dream of America for the Fort Worth Symphony. She served as Associate Costume Designer for Tio Pepe and Esther Demsack at The Living Room for Artists at the Public Theatre, New York. Touring productions include the The Fantasticks at Russian State Theatre Koleso, Togliatti. Shakespeare in the Park, Fort Worth, featured her designs in 1979 and during the 1980s. She has designed at Marquette University, Milwaukee, University of Nevada, Reno, University of Wisconsin Professional Theatre Training Program with Director Norma Saldivar, and Southern Oregon State, Ashland. Locally, her costume designs for Casa Mañana have included The Alamo (an original musical), Driving Miss Daisy, Steel Magnolias, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlotte’s Web and Treasure Island. At Stage West and Circle Theatre (as co-productions with TCU) costume designs included The Crucible and Picasso at the Lapin Agile. She serves as Costume Coordinator for the Fort Worth Opera and is the costume designer for Fort Worth Children’s Opera Theatre. Recent TCU Ballet costume designs include Rosie the Riveter and The Andrews Sisters. Previous ballets and operas at TCU have included Petruscha (Fernando Schanffenburg), Hello In/Out There (David Hochoy), The Yeomen of the Guard, The Marriage of Figaro, Gianni Schicchi and Susor Angelica. LaLonnie is a member of both national and regional chapters of the United States Institute for Technical Theatre and the Costume Society of America.
