Dr. Zou's research focuses on the synthesis and applications of shape(facet)-controlled metal nanocrystals. Of particular current interest are the applications of metal nanocrystals toward catalytic reduction of oxygen which is the cathode reaction of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (such as hydrogen and methanol fuel cells) and lithium-air batteries, and the catalytic conversion of atmosphere CO2 to commodity chemicals. His research on shape-controlled Pt-group transition metal nanocrystal catalysis is currently supported by a NSF grant.
