Harriet L. Cohen, PhD, LCSW, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth. Since joining the faculty at TCU, Harriet has helped to establish the Center on Healthy Aging and develop the Healthy Aging minor. She regularly teaches courses on Death and Dying, Ethics, Practice with Diverse Populations, and Older Adults. She brings her twenty-six years as a social work practitioner with older adults into the classroom and her research. Her research interests include two vulnerable populations: older Holocaust survivors and older lesbians and gay men. Dr. Cohen is a Hartford Social Work Faculty Scholar, which began her exploration of forgiveness and resiliency with older Holocaust survivors. Her current research is in documenting the contributions of Holocaust survivors in Texas, utilizing multimodal learning formats. Dr. Cohen serves on the Council of Social Work Education Board of Directors, the National Center for Gerontology Education (Gero-Ed Center) National Advisory Board, and in leadership positions with other national, state, and local social work- and aging-focused organizations. In 2008, her colleagues honored her with the Association of Baccalaureate Program Directors Distinguished Contribution to Undergraduate Social Work Education Award.
