Chuck Kroll is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Resources Engineering at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY. He was born and raised on the north New Jersey shore (Springsteen Country), and was the product of a better than average public education system, attending Shrewsbury Borough Grammar School and Red Bank Regional High School. He attended Tufts University in Medford, MA, graduating in 1987 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. As a senior, he took his first hydrology course, and switched to Civil and Environmental Engineering for an MS degree under the guidance of Rich Vogel at Tufts University. Upon graduation, Chuck worked as a Staff Engineer for the consulting firm GZA Geoenvironmental, Inc. in their Newton Upper Falls Office. Here he gained experience with surface water, groundwater, and vapor extraction modeling and its application in the practice of environmental engineering. Chuck entered the Civil & Environmental Department at Cornell University in the fall of 1991, and worked under the guidance of Jery Stedinger to earn his PhD. After one year as a Lecturer at Cornell University, he joined the Faculty of SUNY ESF in 1996. Chuck served a 3-year term as Chair of Environmental Resources Engineering from 2008-2011. Over his career his research has been supported by a variety of federal agencies, including the USGS, EPA, NSF, and USDA, and he has been given awards for his research, teaching, and service activities. His current research interests are in environmental modeling and management, with applications to water resources, ecological, and air pollution engineering.
