He teaches "Theories of Communication and Persuasion," "Media Effects," "History of Electronic Media," and "Mass Communication and American Social Thought." He researches music and emotions, history of our discipline, fandom, and social grid indicators eg. lists, ratings, ranking, reviews, etc., those things that tell us how we think we fit. He is a former Annenberg fellow and fellow at the Critical Theory Institute, UC Irvine. He also served on the editorial board of the Journal of Popular Communication and reviewer for several journals.
