Kevin Bartig is associate professor of musicology at the Michigan State University College of Music. His research focuses on twentieth-century music and culture in Eastern Europe and the United States. He has been awarded grants and fellowships by the John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the American Council of Learned Societies, and the U.S. Department of Education. He is the author of Composing for the Red Screen: Sergey Prokofiev and Soviet Film (Oxford University Press, 2013), as well as articles and reviews in The Journal of Musicology, Kritika, Notes, Opera Musicologica, and several essay collections. At Michigan State, Bartig teaches courses and seminars on nineteenth- and twentieth-century Western music. He was a Lilly Teaching Fellow during the 2011-12 academic year, and in 2010 he received MSU’s prestigious Teacher-Scholar Award. Bartig earned his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was awarded the Glen Haydon Award for Outstanding Dissertation in Musicology.
