Robert Buffington is a Professor of Women and Gender Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. His research focuses on the histories of crime, gender, and sexuality in Mexico and Latin America. His most recent book, A Sentimental Education for the Working Man: The Mexico City Penny Press, 1900-1910 (Duke University Press, 2015) analyzes the impact of modernity on working-class notions of manhood in early twentieth-century Mexico City. Other books include Criminal and Citizen in Modern Mexico (University of Nebraska Press, 2000), A Global History of Sexuality (co-edited with Eithne Luibhéid and Donna Guy), True Stories of Crime in Modern Mexico (co-edited with Pablo Piccato), Reconstructing Criminality in Modern Latin America (co-edited with Carlos Aguirre), Mexico: An Encyclopedia of Contemporary Culture and History (co-written with Don Coerver and Suzanne Pasztor), Keen’s Latin American Civilization, Volume One: The Colonial Era, 10th edition (co-edited with Lila Caimari), and Keen’s Latin American Civilization, Volume 2: The Modern Era, 10th edition (co-edited with Lila Caimari).
