B.A. (Sociology/Psychology) Emory University, 1992. M.C.P. (City Planning) Georgia Institute of Technology, 1994. Ph.D. (Urban Design and Planning) University of Washington, 1999. Interests: Comprehensive Planning, Growth Management, Regional Planning and Visioining, Community Resiliency Personal Statement: My career in urban planning can be traced to a youth spent playing SimCity, attending sporting events in vibrant and not-so-vibrant urban settings, and an interest in why the landscape looks the way it does. My abiding interests rest in understanding how and why land gets developed the way it does, and the role the public sector can and should play in ensuring a built environment that simultaneously improves the lives and choices of citizens, profits developers, and minimizes the urban ecological footprint. Although not a native Floridan, I have come to love this diverse and beautiful state, and have worked very hard to train young planners, inform elected officials, and empower planning professionals all in support of the ongoing quest for a more sustainable Sunshine State.
