Milton Marquis completed a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in Mechanical Engineering in 1972 and subsequently worked as a project engineer for American Electric Power. He received a Master of Arts degree in Economics in 1982 and a Ph.D. in Economics in 1985 from Indiana University. He has taught economics and finance at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and at Florida State University, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1985. He worked as an Economist in the Monetary Affairs Division of the Federal Reserve Board from 1993 to 1995, and as a Senior Economist in the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco from 2000 to 2003. He was also a Visiting Scholar at the Bank of Japan in 1997 and at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco in 2005-6. Dr. Marquis has authored two textbooks entitled Monetary Theory and Policy (West Publishing: 1994) and Money and Capital Markets, 10th ed. (McGraw-Hill/Irwin: 2008), and has published over twenty articles on monetary theory, monetary policy, and macroeconomic theory in academic journals, including the Journal of Monetary Economics, Economica, the Review of Economics and Statistics, and the Economic Journal.
