Dr. Carolyn Herrington is a Professor of Educational Policy and is Director of the Educational Policy Center at FSU. Her teaching and research focus on the politics and policies of educational reform with a particular emphasis on the role of the state, and has examined accountability, school finance, school choice and comprehensive children’s services among others. She is the author of over 50 articles, chapters and policy reports and her work has appeared in Educational Policy, Educational Finance and Policy, Peabody Journal of Education, American Journal of Education, Journal of Education Finance, the International Journal of Education Reform, and Educational Administration Quarterly among others. She is currently co-editor of Educational Researcher. She has served as Dean of the College of Education at the University of Missouri, Associate Dean of the FSU College of Education, and Chair of the FSU Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. She served as the President of the Association of Educational Finance and Policy, 2011-12. She served a three-year term on the AERA Governing Council representing the Policy and Politics Division of AERA and was the founding Chair of the AERA Ethics Committee. Her work has been funded by the Carnegie Cooperation of New York, BellSouth Foundation, the Jesse Ball DuPont Fund, the Wallace deWitt Fund, National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, the Institute of Educational Sciences, the Florida Institute of Education, the Florida Legislature, the Florida Board of Regents and the Florida Department of Children and Families. At FSU, she held the Mack and Effie Campbell Tyner Distinguished Chair in Family Education and Policy Studies and at the University of Missouri the Joanne H. Hook Dean’s Chair in Education Renewal. She has served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Burgundy (France) and at Moscow State University (Russia) in conjunction with the FSU International Program and guest lecturer at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Yonsei University, Seoul National University, and Korea University (Republic of Korea). As Dean at the University of Missouri, she worked with program faculty to extend the international reach of the College of Education in establishing partnerships with East China Normal University, National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Normal University, and Trinity College of Dublin.
