A. C. Kemp is a lecturer in English Language Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in writing and oral communication skills. Outside of MIT, she has taught English as a Second Language in a variety of academic, adult education and workplace settings, including Boston University's Center for English Language and Orientation Programs. A. C. has presented workshops on the theory and practice of teaching vocabulary for TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and its Massachusetts affiliate, MATSOL. She has also written vocabulary materials for Pearson Education. Since 2002, she has been the director of Slang City, a website on American slang and popular culture (www.slangcity.com). She is the author of a weekly column on language for the site and recently contributed an article on American slang to E-Journal USA, a publication of the US State Department. A.C.'s first book, The Perfect Insult for Every Occasion: Lady Snark's Guide to Common Discourtesy, was published by Adams Media in March 2008.
