Greg Mitchell is an assistant professor of theater and a freelance designer for theatre, opera, dance, music, and television. His lighting and set designs have been seen in New York and Off-Broadway for producers and venues including Classic Stage Company, Baruch Performing Arts, the Juilliard Opera program, Classical Theatre of Harlem, 37 Arts, Celebrate Brooklyn, Brave New World Repertory, The Bank Street Theatre, Three Graces Theatre Company, The Brooklyn Lyceum, New York Theatre Experiment, The Players Loft, the New York International Fringe Festial, and the New York Musical Festival at the Pearl Theatre and Signature Theatre Center. Regionally, Professor Mitchell's work has been produced nationwide at companies including The African Continuum Company at the Kennedy Center (DC), The Texas Shakespeare Festival (TX), Perseverance Theatre Company (AK), Washington Shakespeare Company (DC), The Studio Theatre (DC), Tsunami Theatre Company (DC), the Source Theatre (DC), Washington Stage Guild (DC), Theatre of Walla Walla (WA), Pensobscot Theatre Company (ME), The Mac-Haydn Theatre (NY), The Historic Iao Theatre (HI), Curtain Call (NY), Rep Stage (MD), Sierra Repertory Theatre (CA), Summer Rep (CA), Alpine Theatre Project (MT), Imagination Stage (MD), Smithtown Performing Arts Center (NY), The Theatre at Monmouth (ME), Capital Playhouse (WA), American Stage Festival (NH), and Playhouse on the Square (TN), For Television his work as an art director has been seen on MTV, VH1, CNBC, EPSN, and the Fuse Network, Has been a taught or been a guest artist at Whitman College, Fort Lewis College, Juilliard, Catholic University, The University of Maine at Orono, Santa Rosa Junior College, and CUNY Laguardia. Particularly memorable projects include designing costumes for Wagner's Tannhaüser for the Teatri Kombetar i Operas dhe i Baletit (Albania's National Theatre), The Tempest sponsored by the Borough of Brooklyn for an audience of 5000 on the Coney Island Boardwalk, twenty-two tons of dirt trucked into New York City, installed and sculpted in a third story theatre for Curse of the Starving Class, suspending at audience seventeen feet in the air to look down on a production of Sarah Ruhl's Eurydice, and reshaping New York City's Clurman Theatre to wrap the audience in an 18' high environmental set for the world premiere of Tartuffe Supreme starring André De Shields and Ted Lange. Professor Mitchell's work has been nominated for the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Design.
