Term Assistant Professor Edward (Eli) Kass brings to USF progressive research and teaching in the areas of management theory, organizational dynamics, and negotiation, publishing his work in a number of leading international journals. Enriching the curriculum of his courses in organizational behavior and leadership, Professor Kass draws from his own research on conflict resolution, social comparison and fairness, and what it means to be a good employee. Most recently, Dr. Kass is focusing on the drivers/aspects that serve or hinder the process of negotiating successfully, also working with students to examine the impact of alliances, biases, personal trust and organizational ethics. With a background in sociology, psychology and organizational dynamics, Dr. Kass hopes to gain new insight into the interpersonal and psychological components at play in business and organizational communications, negotiations and interactions. Exploring questions such as "Why, in certain business interactions, is only one party satisfied with the exchange?" and "What needs to occur in order for both parties to desire future business dealings?" Dr. Kass's course work examines the attributes that determine "interactional justice", a term he uses to describe a desired outcome involving a myriad of factors: trust, persuasion, quality, perceived/actual deception, and power alliances. Aligned entirely with USF's core tenant of ethical business practice, Professor Kass is helping students investigate the psychological aspects of communication that result in more honest, effective and long-term business relationships.
