Lucia E. Cantero is Assistant Professor and Graduate Program Director for International Studies. She is a scholar interested in the politics of visual culture, race and consumerism in urban Brazil, especially on the cusp of mega-events. She just completed her PhD in the Department of Anthropology and African American Studies at Yale University. Prior to that she received her Bachelors and Masters in the Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. Her work has been supported by the Mellon Foundation, the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, and the Social Science Research Council. Currently, she is working on her first book project, an adaptation of her doctoral thesis: Specters of the Market: Consumer Citizenship and the Visual Politics of Race and Inequality in Brazil.
