Professor Jean East is a community practice specialist. She also is co-founder of Project WISE (Women's Initiative for Service and Empowerment), a Denver-based nonprofit agency that provides counseling, mentoring and community organizing services with low-income women. East was named 2003 Social Worker of the Year by the Colorado Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. She also won the University of Denver's 2006 Distinguished Teaching Award and received a 2007 "Be Bold" award from the Women's Foundation of Colorado. At GSSW, she teaches foundation practice courses and concentration courses on community organizing, leadership, administration and supervision.
