简介

Dan Krymkowski has spent his entire career studying social inequality. In his early work, he examined class inequality in Germany, Poland, and the U.S. and status inequality in Kenya. Journal articles on this work were published in Rural Sociology, Ethnic and Racial Studies, The American Sociological Review, and Social Science Information. Subsequently, he turned his attention to changes over time in gender, racial, and ethnic occupational inequality in the United States. This research was published in Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, The Sociological Quarterly, and The International Journal of Sociology. Most recently, he has been interested in social inequality in the consumption of leisure. Work on this topic has appeared in Environmental Management and is forthcoming in The Journal of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism. Over the years, Dan has also been interested in the methodological issues raised by his substantive interests. He has published articles on how to measure educational attainment (in Social Science Research), how to forecast social mobility (in Social Forces), how to classify occupations (in Quality and Quantity), how to measure opportunity (in The Journal of Mathematical Sociology), how to model the evolution of inequality (in Rationality and Society), and how to measure the extent of inter-personal agreement in leisure preferences (in Leisure Sciences). Many of these articles featured co-authors; please see his C.V. for precise citations. At UVM, it has been Dan’s pleasure to work with Beth Mintz in the Department of Sociology on changes in occupational inequality and Robert Manning and William Valliere of the Rubenstein School on social inequality in leisure.
