Dr. Malovrh specializes in SLA, applied Hispanic linguistics, and foreign language pedagogy. Working within a cognitive framework, he investigates interlanguage development and the underlying psycholinguistic strategies constraining it. Most recently, he has turned his attention to advanced-level acquisition, specifically, and its relationship with curricular design and contemporary professional expectations. He is under contract with Cambridge University Press to write the monograph, Advanced-Level Spanish: SLA, Foreign Language Pedagogy, and the Pursuit of Professional Standards, and is also under contract to co-edit with Alessandro Benati, The Handbook of Advanced Proficiency in Second Language Acquisition, for Wiley-Blackwell’s handbook series. His current research agenda also addresses morphological variability and its relationship with lexical representation, and explores foreign-language learning processes among at-risk learners. He has lived and worked in Chile, the United Kingdom, and throughout Asia, and he directed USC’s study abroad program in Costa Rica in 2011.
