I am currently a Professor of Philosophy at the University of California at Santa Cruz. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 1982 and came to Santa Cruz in Fall 1982. I am interested in topics involving philosophy of religion, philosophy of science, epistemology, philosophical logic, and metaphysics. Most of my work is in philosophy of religion and formal epistemology (Bayesian epistemology). My work in formal epistemology centers around experience and conditionalization in Bayesianism, and the relation between rationality and various formal requirements of belief. My work in philosophy of religion deals with the rationality of belief in God. Most of my research in philosophy of religion makes use of formal tools in analytic philosophy, and I am particularly interested in probabilistic arguments in philosophy of religion.
