Roger D. Applegate is Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries. He works as a Wildlife Population Biologist for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Wildlife and Forestry Division in Nashville where he coordinates statewide programs for wildlife diseases, human dimensions, northern bobwhite, ruffed grouse, cottontail rabbits, and tree squirrels. He is also an adjunct instructor of biology at Nashville State Community College where he teaches courses in biology. He has served as an academic advisor or committee member for over 20 M. S. and 4 Ph. D. candidates in wildlife.
Roger has an Associate in Arts degree in General Studies from Parkland College in Illinois, a B. S. in wildlife and conservation from Western Illinois University, and an M. S. in Ecology from the University of Illinois. He has worked in Illinois, Tennessee, Maine, and Kansas on a wide range of research and management programs ranging from bird migration to big game management and research. His personal passion for research and management is restoration of the northern bobwhite. He also has a strong interest in disease ecology, especially zoonotic diseases. He is a Certified Wildlife Biologist and a Certified Senior Ecologist from the Ecological Society of America, and has published 80+ peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. He serves as an Associate Editor for the Wildlife Society Bulletin and is on the Editorial Board of Southeastern Naturalist.
