David Clarke is a civil engineer specializing in transportation, with a particular focus on railways. His 32 years of experience in the transportation area include: management or participation in numerous research projects; teaching undergraduate and graduate level transportation engineering courses; and practice in engineering design, construction, and project management. He teaches railroad engineering and related subjects to both college and professional audiences. Clarke is active in a number of professional organizations, including the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the American Public Works Association, and the Transportation Research Board (TRB), where he recently finished a 6-year term as chair of the Rail Freight Transport Committee.
