Tim Labor received a Bmus from Queen’s University, Kingston in 1987, and Masters (1990) and Ph.D. (1996) in musical composition from the University of California, San Diego. As a research assistant for composer Roger Reynolds, he provided audio assistance and sound spatialization for projects featured by the Philadelphia Orchestra, Lucinda Childs Dance Company, the Suzuki Dance Company of Toga and others. As a composer, his computer music compositions have been heard at the International Computer Music Conference, the Centro Cultural Recoleta (Buenos Aires), and the Roboard Pianoforte Festival. Commercial media projects include the score for Viking Intertainment’s Re-Elect JFK (Viking/Quadra, 1995), the title music for the first edition of Everquest (Sony/989 Studios, 1997), and a variety of documentaries and short films. As a sound designer for Los Angeles 99-seat theatre community since 1999, he has worked with the Open Fist Theatre (Brecht’s Life of Galileo, Abingdon Square, Travesties) Circle-X Theatre Company (Louis Slotin Sonata, American Book of the Dead: The Game Show, Sperm and others), Sacred Fools (Beaverquest, Sex and Imagining), and Theatre of Note (Holy Mother of Hadley New York, Fubar) and others. He received an Ovation nomination for the sound design for the Open Fist Production of Papa (2005), and the LA Weekly Award in intimate sound design for Sacred Fools’ Swine Show (2008).
