M.F.A. (fiction), University of California at Irvine
Charmaine Craig studied literature at Harvard University and received her MFA in fiction from UC Irvine. Her first novel, The Good Men, published by Riverhead Books (Penguin), was a widely reviewed national bestseller and translated into six foreign languages. Her essay “Burma’s Fault Lines: Ethnic Federalism and the Road to Peace” was published in Dissent in 2014. Her second novel, nearing completion, tells the story of Burma in the twentieth century through the lens of one family. Involved personally in the Karen cause and Burma’s pro-democracy movement, Professor Craig is interested in the relationship between fiction, fact, and freedom, and brings to the classroom secondary areas of expertise in historical fiction and narratology.
