简介

Edward Chlebus received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Cracow University, Poland in 1985 and 1990, respectively. From 1985 to 1992 he was a research assistant and an assistant professor at the Telecommunications Department of Cracow University. In the academic year 1988/89 he visited the Laboratoire d'Analyse et d'Architecture des Systemes (LAAS-CNRS) in Toulouse, France. His research was sponsored by France Telecom Research & Development Center in Paris. From October 1992 to December 1994 he was a research fellow at the Teletraffic Research Centre of the University of Adelaide, Australia. Funding for his research was provided by Telecom Australia Research Laboratories in Melbourne. Between 1995 and 1997 Dr. Chlebus worked on various performance aspects of mobile satellite systems at Motorola Satellite Communications Division in Chandler, Arizona. From 1997 to 2001 he was with the Wireless Architecture and Performance Department of Bell Laboratories in Naperville, Illinois where he was involved in design, modeling and performance analysis of wireless communications systems. From 2000 to 2001 Dr. Chlebus was an expert of the International Telecommunication Union Standardization Sector (ITU-T) in Geneva, Switzerland. Since 2001 he has been with the faculty of the Computer Science Department of Illinois Institute of Technology where he is currently an industry associate professor and director of the Network Modeling and Teletraffic Analysis Lab (NEMTAL). Dr. Chlebus' main research interests include network modeling, teletrafficengineering,Internet mathematics and performance evaluation of computer and communications systems. His seminal paper "Is handoff traffic really Poissonian?", published in Proc. of 4th IEEE International Conference on Universal Personal Communications, ICUPC'95, Tokyo, Japan, Nov. 6-10, 1995, pp. 348-353 started the systematic investigation of statistical properties of handoff traffic in wireless mobile systems and initiated publishing new results in this area. He serves as an editor of The Open Information Systems Journal and is a frequent reviewer of IEEE journals and conferences. Dr. Chlebus won the 1985 Best MS Thesis Award given by theAssociationof PolishElectrical Engineers (SEP) and the 1990 and 1991 Best PaperAwards of the PolishSymposium on Communications. He was also an advisor of the thesis winning the 1992 SEP Best MS Thesis Award
