Caron Daley is Director of Choral Activities and Assistant Professor of Music at the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she conducts the Voices of Spirit, Women's Pappert Chorale, and teaches undergraduate and graduate choral conducting. A native of Nova Scotia, Caron has held past teaching/conducting appointments with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, University of Toronto, Trinity Western University, Dalhousie University, Salem Academy and College, and St. Michael's Choir School. She holds a D.M.A (Choral Conducting) from the University of Toronto, an M.M. (Choral Conducting) and M.A. (Vocal Pedagogy) from The Ohio State University, and an Artist Diploma (Voice) and B.Mus (Music Education) from Western University. Caron sits on the editorial board of Choral Canada's Anacrusis and writes a column entitled Podium Perspectives, exploring issues in conductor education and professional practice. A certified Dalcroze Eurhythmics practitioner, Caron regularly lectures on the sound-gesture relationship in choral rehearsing and conductor training, and has presented research at Choral Canada, Dalcroze USA, Festival 500, and the International Coalition of Boys' Schools conferences. In 2015, she presented new research on trends in conductor preparation/education at the Chorus America conference in Boston, and was interviewed for an article in Opera Canada exploring podium politics for women conductors in professional choral/orchestral/opera roles. In 2016, Caron leads a session entitled, "Maestra matters: Exploring women's leadership in choral music-making and community-building" at the Podium conference in Edmonton.
