Marilyn Matar obtained her Ph.D. in Modern French Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a dissertation on the literary representations of the Lebanese civil war. Before coming to the United States, she studied at Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut, Lebanon where she completed her master’s degree in French literature.
Dr. Matar’s first experience as a teacher was in Lebanon in middle and high school classes, and included preparing students for the French baccalaureate examination. Prior to joining The Catholic University of America, Dr. Matar taught a wide variety of classes on French language, literature and culture at the University of Maryland, the George Washington University, and the Alliance françaisein DC. In 2011, she served as Coordinator and supervisor of the Teaching Assistants in the French department at the University of Maryland and was Acting Course Chair for the Beginner and Intermediate French Courses.
