Dr. Weitz’s research interests lie in the dynamics of intellectual and social interaction between the various religious communities that have shaped the history of the Islamic Middle East. He is currently working on a book manuscript that examines the emergence of traditions of family law among the Christian communities of the medieval Middle East, and how this Christian law articulated new conceptions of community in the multi-religious societies of the Abbasid Caliphate.
