Mark J. Clark received his Ph.D. in Medieval History from Columbia University in 2002, where he focused on the Bible and Theology during the Early Scholastic Period. As a Fellow at the Boston College Institute for Medieval Philosophy and Theology Dr. Clark spent two years studying medieval philosophy and theology with Professor Stephen Brown, who taught him how to edit manuscripts. Dr. Clark also holds a J.D. from Duke University (1981) and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Florida (1978).
Dr. Clark, who is jointly appointed to the Church History and the Historical and Systematic Theology areas in STRS, works on the formation of the scholastic tradition, biblical as well as theological, from 1150 to 1350. He is currently publishing extensively on Peter Lombard, Peter Comestor, and Stephen Langton and is working together with Alexander Andrée of the Centre for Medieval Studies at The University of Toronto to sort out what happened to the biblical Gloss at Paris during the second half of the twelfth century. He is also editing, together with Professor Tim Noone of the School of Philosophy and Professor Joshua Benson of STRS, the early thirteenth-century sources, both Franciscan and Dominican, for Saints Bonaventure and Aquinas. Finally, he and Professor Noone expect to publish shortly critical editions of two prominent fourteenth-century theologians, Antonius Andreas and William of Alnwick.
