Francois Rose has been a faculty member at the University of the Pacific since 1997. He received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from McGill University, and his Ph.D. with a concentration in compsition from the University of California-San Diego. He also studied with Tristan Murail, at the Institut de Recherche Coordination Acoustique et Musique (IRCAM), and with Gerard Grisey at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris.
Dr. Rose's music has been performed in cities throughout Europe, Australia, North and South America. He was an award winner in the SDE/PRO Canada Composers Competition (Canada, in 1986, 1987, and 1988), in the "Kazimierz Serocki" International Composers Competition (Poland, in 1990), and in the Edvard Grieg Composers' Competition (Norway, in 2001). Besides his compositional activities, he is continuing his work on the development of a computerized orchestration aid. He is also the co-author of the Gagaku Project, a website devoted to the orchestration technique in Japanese music. In the Conservatory, Dr. Rose teaches in all areas of music theory, orchestration, and composition. He is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the Canadian League of Composers, and is an associate composer to the Canadian Music Centre. His compositions including scores and recordings are available at the Canadian Music Centre.
