Frank Wiens has been a member of the faculty at the University of the Pacific since 1976. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Music degree both in piano performance from the University of Michigan. His major teachers include Benning Dexter, Gyorgy Sandor, Harald Logan, and John Perry. Prior to coming to the Conservatory of Music, he taught at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Professor Wiens has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, the Purcell Room in London (English recital debut), and in the Brahmssaal of the Musikverein in Vienna, Austria (European debut). Other activity includes concerts in South Korea, Russia, Poland, and Romania, international jury member of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, solo performances on NPR and PBS, and annual recital tours of the United States since 1974. Mr. Wiens has performed as a soloist with the Atlanta, Denver, and Detroit Symphonies, and has recorded Rachmaninov's Third Piano Concerto with the Slovakia National Orchestra. He was awarded the Distinguished Faculty Award and the Faculty Research-Lecturer Award at the University of the Pacific. Professor Wiens is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, Pi Kappa Phi, Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), and Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC).
