Dr. Nate Carnes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Instruction and Teacher Education (ITE) and Program Coordinator for the Middle Level Education degree. After several years of teaching science in Ohio elementary and middle classrooms, he joined USC in 1996. His research interests include inquiry teaching and learning issues in elementary and middle level science classrooms and preservice teachers' images of science teaching and learning. He primarily teaches science methods and classroom management courses. In addition to teaching, his service record includes serving on the international Association for Science Teacher Education and South Carolina Science Academy boards, Middle Level Program Coordinator, reviewer for international and national journals, and participation on College and ITE committees. He is a member of several science education and Middle Level professional organizations.
