Jeffrey B. Arthur (Ph.D., Cornell University) is an Associate Professor of Management. Prior to joining the faculty at Virginia Tech in August 2000, Dr. Arthur was an Assistant Professor at Purdue University and Fairfield University. He teaches graduate and undergraduate classes in strategic human resource management, compensation and performance management, and employee and labor-management relations. Dr. Arthur's published research focuses on the effect of human resource systems on organizational performance outcomes. He has conducted research on the link between high-performance work systems and firm performance, productivity gain-sharing and organizational learning, the role of management values on high-performance work system (HPWS) effectiveness, and linking the level of incivility in organizations to firm-level performance. He has presented this research at numerous conferences and meetings including Academy of Management and Labor and Employee Relations Association and has had articles published in Academy of Management Journal, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Industrial Relations, Journal of Management, International Journal of Human Resource Management, and Human Resource Management Review. His articles on strategic human resource management have been cited widely. He is an Associate Editor at the International Journal of Human Resource Management and a member of the Editorial Board at Strategic Management Journal.
