Dr. Bonnie S. Billingsley, a professor at Virginia Tech, is a faculty member in the Department of Teaching and Learning. She teaches in both the teacher preparation and doctoral programs at Virginia Tech. She has authored numerous articles on teacher retention, commitment, and the support of new teachers. In addition to being actively involved in research and teaching, Dr. Billingsley also engages in extensive service activities. She has served as a primary research consultant on teacher retention in urban schools for the Research Triangle Institute, and she has worked with a number of groups on special education personnel research and policies, including the National Center to Inform Policy and Practice in Special Education, the Council for Exceptional Children’s (CEC’s) Induction Advisory Committee, the U.S. Department of Education Personnel Advisory Committees, the Recruitment and Retention Subcommittee of the CEC, and the Networking System for Training Education Personnel for NASDSE. She has also evaluated personnel-related research findings for a number of different groups that include the Center for Personnel Studies in Special Education, the National Center for Education Statistics, and the National Clearinghouse on the Professions in Special Education. Dr. Billingsley’s contributions through teaching, research, and service enrich the Virginia Tech School of Education community.
