Most modality usage revolves around the premise of increasing or decreasing blood flow. Cryotherapy, most notably, is believed to decrease blood flow to the cooled areas. While this is true to the skin, skeletal muscle blood flow is questionable. Gaining a better understanding of what role cyrotherapy plays in sports medicine will allow for better clinical outcomes. Musculoskeletal imaging is a way to examine muscular and vascular structures. This allows for real time assessment of muscle function during exercise, vascular changes with injuries, etc. This technology can be used in conjunction with clinical skills to better help diagnose and treat athletes and patients.
