Beverly Barham is an Associate Professor in the Medical Laboratory Science Program located in the Department of Health Sciences. Her interests include the content areas of microbiology, immunology and immunohematology (blood banking). Having worked as a clinical laboratory scientist in a hospital setting for many years, she brings a real life perspective to her classroom. In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Barham also holds a masters degree in public health and doctorate in the combined areas of molecular biology, microbiology, and biochemistry. In her 7 years at ISU, she has taught the introductory course to Medical Laboratory Science, and the MLS major courses of Immunology, Immunohematology, Clinical Microbiology, Parasitology, Mycology, and Advanced Clinical Microbiology. Dr. Barham also oversees the professional practice experiences for the MLS students during their senior year. Research interests include the scholarship of teaching and learning in the Medical Laboratory Science classroom and student engagement. Basic science research interests include bacterial adhesion molecules and strategies that prevent adhesion from occurring. Dr. Barham has worked with MLS students in the research lab identifying the specific time for adhesion to occur on catheter tubing cultures using different species of bacteria.
