Duane Boutté is a recent addition to the ISU faculty, specializing in Stanislavski-based Acting, Classical Acting, Movement and Commedia dell 'Arte Mask. He performed on Broadway in the original company of PARADE (TONY nomination for Best Musical), and played “Enoch Snow, Jr.” in the original revival company of CAROUSEL (TONY Award winner for Best Musical Revival). Other credits include original casts of THE BUBBLY BLACK GIRL SHEDS HER CHAMELEON SKIN (Playwrights Horizons, NY), CIVIL SEX (Public Theatre, NY), and other premiere productions by celebrated playwrights Terrence McNally, Eric Overmyer, Robert O'Hara, John Logan, Charles Randolph Wright, Colman Domingo, Matthew Lopez and Tracey Scott Wilson. Professor Boutté has performed at many of the countries leading regional theatres including Goodman Theatre, Arena Stage, Long Wharf Theatre, McCarter Theatre, Berkeley Rep., La Jolla Playhouse, Dallas Theatre Center, Denver Center, Penumbra Theatre, Virginia Stage, and more. An experienced Shakespearean actor and scholar, Professor Boutté has performed with the Shakespeare Theatre Company (Washington, D.C.), Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Berkeley Shakespeare Festival and Alabama Shakespeare Festival. He has worked with world-renown directors Hal Prince, Nicholas Hytner, Mary Zimmerman, Robert Falls, Michael Greif, Tony Taccone, Kate Whoriskey and more. Among his favorite stage roles performed are “Mercutio” (Oregon), “Orestes” (Berkeley Rep.), and “Louis Chauvin” in THE HELIOTROPE BOUQUET (Playwrights Horizons, NY). Mr. Boutté stars in the independent films STONEWALL, and BROTHER TO BROTHER; both shown in theaters world-wide. Other film credits include YOU BELONG TO ME, CHECKOUT, and ALMOST CHRISTMAS. He has guest starred on television shows SEX AND THE CITY, A YEAR IN THE LIFE, and ONE LIFE TO LIVE, and had a recurring role on WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW. Professor Boutté has directed productions for Rep Stage (Columbia, MD), Algonquin Productions (NY), Good Company Players (Fresno, CA), and Stella Adler Studio (NY). A skilled pianist, he has composed three, produced, musical scores: CARAVAGGIO CHIAROSCURO (LaMama Theatre, NY), LYIN' UP A BREEZE (Good Company Players, Fresno), and BOTTOM'S UP; A MUSICCOMMEDIA (UCLA; winner of ACTF Award for Best New Musical). He is a member of The Acting Company, Vineyard Theatre's “Community of Artists”, Actor's Equity Association and SAG/AFTRA.
