Steven P. Dandaneau, Ph.D., is Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies and Associate Professor of Sociology at Kansas State University. Dandaneau received his B.A. in economics (1986) from Michigan State University and his M.A. (1990) and Ph.D. (1992) in sociology from Brandeis University. Over a nearly twenty-five year career, Dandaneau has added undergraduate education in sociology to his original fields of specialization in community sociology, social theory, and political economy. His publications in sociology include A Town Abandoned: Flint, Michigan, Confronts Deindustrialization (SUNY, 1996), A Wrong Life: Studies in Lifeworld-Grounded Critical Theory (with Maude Falcone, JAI, 1998), and Taking It Big: Developing Sociological Consciousness in Postmodern Times (Pine Forge, 2001), while his current work centers on Doing Social Problems (with Harry F. Dahms, Pearson, forthcoming), and on-going collaboration with his mentor from Brandeis University, Maurice R. Stein (retired since 2002). Previous to his appointment in 2012 as Vice Provost at K-State, Dandaneau served as Associate Provost and Director of the Chancellor’s Honors and Haslam Scholars Programs (the latter as founding director) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Visiting Professor of Sociology at the University of Maryland, College Park; and Director of the University Honors & John W. Berry, Sr. Scholars Programs at the University of Dayton. Steve is married to Debra K. Dandaneau, Ph.D., Lecturer in the Department of Physics at Kansas State University, and is the proud parent of Patrick (20), Max (14), and Eleanor (4).
