Dr. Cano is an assistant professor of sociology in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work. He earned his Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Arizona State University in 2015. He joined the faculty at Kansas State University in 2014. His current research examines the impact of recent legal punishment reforms on federal prosecutors’ and judges’ decision making. His work also focuses on extralegal disparities and the influence of social context in the federal sentencing process and homicide punishment outcomes in state courts. He has taught courses in criminological theory, courts and sentencing, introduction to criminal justice, and quantitative methods.
