Jennifer Johnson is Second Oboe/English Horn of the Los Angeles Opera, Principal Oboe of the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, Second Oboe of the Santa Barbara Symphony, and has played with the Pasadena Symphony, Fresno Philharmonic, Reno Chamber Orchestra, Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Berkeley Symphony. She was also Principal Oboe of both the American Youth Symphony and Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestras for several years. She has performed with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra over a span of seven seasons, acting as Second Oboe for several weeks in 2011. A highlight of her achievements has been two subsequent trips to Hong Kong, where she served as Principal Oboe for the Hong Kong Sinfonietta for a total of six weeks in 2007 and 2008. Ms. Johnson completed her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Colorado with Peter Cooper. She then went to Los Angeles to earn a Master’s Degree at the University of Southern California with Allan Vogel and David Weiss. Additionally she received an Artist’s Diploma from The Colburn School Conservatory with Dr. Vogel, and has studied with Anne Gabriele and Carolyn Hove from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Elaine Douvas and Pedro Diaz from the Metropolitan Opera, and Richard Woodhams from the Philadelphia Orchestra. She was the fellowship recipient for three years at the Aspen Music Festival and also participated in the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland. In addition to her orchestral experience, she is an active chamber musician. As a member of Midnight Winds and the Troy Trio, she performs throughout Los Angeles, and enjoys playing performances with many other groups as well. When she is not playing, performing, and teaching, Ms. Johnson loves spending time outdoors and with her friends and family.
