Li Guo’s areas of interest are Arabic language and literature, medieval Arabic documents, historiography, and popular culture. He is the author of Early Mamluk Syrian Historiography: Al-Yunini’s Dhayl Mir’at al-zaman (Brill, 1998), Commerce, Culture, and Community in a Red Sea Port in the Thirteenth Century: The Arabic documents of Quseir (Brill, 2004). His most recent book, The Performing Arts in Medieval Islam: Shadow play and popular poetry in Ibn Daniyal’s Mamluk Cairo (Brill, 2012) is the winner of the IIM Prize for Research in the category « New conceptual tools », Institut International de la Marionnette, France, 2015.
