Irene J. Dabrowski (Ph.D., Washington University) is an associate professor of sociology at the St. John’s University Staten Island campus. She served for 10 years as Chair of the Division of Social Sciences. Her publications are in the areas of women’s studies, urban sociology, the sociology of education, the sociology of health and illness, futurology, and interdisciplinary thinking. As a Visiting Scholar at The Hastings Center, she investigated the ethical dimensions of holistic health care. Among the courses she has taught are social theory, inequality, and the sociology of poverty. Currently, Dr. Dabrowski serves as co-coordinator of The New Jersey Chapter of the World Future Society, a global non-profit educational organization investigating how social, economic, and technological developments are shaping the future. She is a member on the Board of Directors of the East Coast Colleges Social Science Association and is on the editorial board of The ECCSSA Journal. As a St. John’s University team member of SENCER (Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities), she participated in the 2014 SENCER Summer Institute at the University of North Carolina (Asheville). Her present research investigates the sociological consequences of artificial intelligence and the conceptual challenges that biotechnology poses to 21st century social science.
