Our research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms regulating transcription of pro-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic genes in cancer and leukemia cells as well as activated human leukocytes. Specifically, we are interested in the mechanisms of how the transcription factor NFkB and nuclear IkB kinases regulate transcription of pro-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic chemokines in cancer cells and human macrophages. In addition, our studies focus on analyzing the mechanisms regulating expression of immunosuppressive genes in human leukocytes and leukemia cells. This research has been enriched tremendously by the diligent and creative work of many graduate and undergraduate students, who after graduating from SJU, assumed research positions at Harvard Medical School, Columbia Medical School, University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, and other premier research institutions.
