Lisa Baker's research interests closely align with her practice experience in medical and disaster mental health social work. She began her social work career as a perinatal social worker working with families experiencing difficult pregnancies, medically complex deliveries, special needs infants, and infant loss. She worked as a disaster mental health volunteer before and after Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Baker currently serves as the President of the National Association of Perinatal Social Workers, an International organization promoting education, support, and research for social workers employed in maternal and infant health settings. She also pursues evidence-based disaster research as she studies ways to improve preparedness in families of children with special healthcare needs. She has recently co-authored her first book, Vulnerable Populations and Disasters: An Evidence-based Approach for the Helping Professions (Springer Publishing, 2015).
