Dana R. Villa is an internationally known scholar of Hannah Arendt’s political thought whose work has been translated into numerous languages, including French, Italian, German, Japanese, and Chinese. Villa's latest book is 'Public Freedom' (Princeton University Press, 2008). Most recently, Villa--an editorial board member of theEuropean Journal of Political Theory--has contributed an essay entitled "Weber's Children" to a forthcoming volume on Weimar thought edited by Peter Gordon and John McCormick, as well as "A Second Coming? The Return of German Political Thought" for the Annual Review of Political Science. He has also recently published "Hannah Arendt, 1906-1975" in The Review of Politics and Tocqueville and the Feminization of the Bourgeoisis in Feminist Readings of Tocqueville, edited by Jill Locke and Eileen Botting. He was an invited speaker at the Yale Political Theory Colloquium last spring, and will be giving the Harris Lecture in Philosophy at Miami University, Ohio, this fall. His work was the subject of a recent two-day seminar run by the south-west chapter of the Interfaith Alliance, a progressive political organization.

Villa earned his doctorate from Princeton University, and specializes in contemporary political theory, the history of political thought, and continental philosophy. He has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Council of Learned Societies, the Institute for Advanced Studies, and the American Academy in Berlin
