Dr. Britt first taught nursing at Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta. She also has taught obstetrical nursing at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, and the pass rate for the OB section of the licensing exam jumped to between 95 and 100% for her students. Later, she taught in UAB's BSN program and entered its first doctoral class. She has held positions as course manager for prelicensure theory and clinical courses and program coordinator for the AMNP. As AMNP Coordinator, she received two $100,000 RWJF NCIN grants.
