Catherine Puglisi specializes in Italian Baroque painting andPuglisi sculpture. She is the author of Caravaggio (Phaidon Press), which first appeared in 1998, and has since been translated into Italian and French. Her monograph and catalogue raisonné on the seventeenth-century Bolognese painter Francesco Albani appeared with Yale University Press in 1999. Her publications in journals and museum catalogues include studies on Guido Reni, Carracci drawings, Venetian 18th-art, and most recently on the Man of Sorrows in Venetian Art, the subject of ongoing research. This theme was the focus of the exhibition, for which she acted as guest co-curator, “Passion in Venice: The Man of Sorrows from Crivelli to Tintoretto and Veronese,” on view at the Museum of Biblical Art (MoBia), New York City, from February to June, 2011. She co-edited and co-authored the exhibition catalogue accompanying the show (London, D. Giles Ltd, 2011), which includes entries by Rutgers graduate students in her exhibition seminar. Selected papers from the symposium held in conjunction with the exhibition will appear in New Perspectives on the Man of Sorrows, for which she is co-editor and contributor (Medieval Institute Publications, forthcoming 2013). While on leave in fall 2011, she held a residential fellowship at the Ligurian Study Center in Bogliasco outside Genoa, where she advanced her research and writing of a collaborative book on the Man of Sorrows in Venice and the Veneto.
